《森林王子》(the Jungle Book) ,讲述着和狼群一起长大的男孩。电影的原著和今天的诗,出自一人之手,英国作家约瑟夫·罗德雅德·吉卜林 (Joseph Rudyard Kipling)。
约瑟夫·罗德雅德·吉卜林 (Joseph Rudyard Kipling), 1865年12月30日-1936年1月18日,生于印度孟买,英国作家及诗人。主要著作有儿童故事《丛林奇谭》(The Jungle Book,1894年)、印度侦探小说《基姆》(Kim,1901年)、 诗集《营房谣》(Gunga Din,1892年)、短诗《If—》(If—,1895年)以及许多脍炙人口的短篇小说。他是英国19世纪至20世纪中一位很受欢迎的散文作家,被誉为“短篇小说艺术创新之人”。于 42 岁,1907 年获得诺贝尔文学奖,是英国第一个诺贝尔文学奖获得者。曾有很多人谴责吉卜林,说吉卜林在对印度殖民地生活的描绘中,经常表露出对殖民主义的支持,认为没有欧洲大国的帮助,印度等殖民地国家就不能生存。
而本篇摘录的诗,是吉卜林写给他 12 岁儿子的,来告诫儿子如何才能经受住人生旅途中可能遇到的种种精神上的考验。
