Zhang Sengyou was a painter in the Liang Dynasty. One day, the king asked him to draw some dragons on the wall of a temple.

It took Zhang only three days to draw the dragons. People went to see his work. The dragons were very beautiful and lifelike, but they didn’t have eyes. People asked Zhang why. He answered, “If I draw eyes for the dragons, they will have life and fly away.”

People didn’t believe his words. They asked Zhang to draw eyes for the dragons. After Zhang drew eyes on two of the dragons’ faces, a strong wind came and the sky was dark. The two dragons with eyes came out and flew into the sky. The dragons with no eyes were still on the wall.

People were amazed at the drawing skill of Zhang Sengyou. Soon, all the people in the state knew the story of drawing dragons.

张僧繇（yóu） 是梁朝的画家。一天，皇帝邀请他在一座寺庙的墙上画几条龙。

他只用了三天时间就画好了龙。人们都很想来看看他的作品。张僧繇画了几条美丽的龙，栩栩如生，但他没有画出它们的眼睛。人们问张僧繇为什么。他回答：如果我把眼睛画在龙身上，它们就会变成真正的龙飞走。

大家都不相信他说的话，并请他画上龙的眼睛。谁知，他刚画完两只龙眼，马上就开始狂风大作，天空的颜色变暗了。两只眼睛被画上的龙离开了墙，飞向天空。墙上只剩下两只没有眼睛的龙。

人们都被他高超的绘画技术所折服。不久，他的画龙故事传遍全国。
