英语短文原创——Do smart phones make us smarter?

With the rapid development of technology, various new-born digital devices have been introduced into our daily life. Nothing, it seems, has become more popular than smart phones.

Needless to say, we are benefiting a great deal from them. Thanks to APPs like WeChat on smart phones, it's now possible for us to chat with friends and family with ease, no matter how far we are from each other. Smart phones allow us to make payments without using any cash. So many functions can smart phones perform that they sometimes even take the place of computers.

However, as we're enjoying the convenience they have brought us, most of us have no idea that they have somehow gone too far in invading our lives. It seems that they have brought us closer together, but in reality people are spending less time with friends and family than with their phones. Sometimes, family members send each other texts in order to communicate, even when they are in the same room.

Moreover, the bewildering range of information available on smart phones has overwhelmed us, so much so that we have no patience to go through anything in detail, and it's getting harder and harder for us to concentrate on what we are doing. Funnily enough, instead of getting better informed, we get lost in the sea of information.

While we are fiddling with our phones, the world has gone on without us.

Technology is a double-edged sword, isn't it?
